History

Veteran Adjusting School (VAS) was born from a conversation between co-founders Guy Grand and Gary Pitts. They identified two major challenges: the insurance industry’s need for adjusters who consistently deliver high-quality work, and the troubling reality that 35% of our returning U.S. Veterans were unemployed. With a shared commitment to solving both problems, they set out to build a solution that would make a difference.

Together with Operations Manager Cheryl Sinn, they spent the next year navigating state and federal regulations to establish VAS as a licensed vocational school—the first of its kind in the country, focused solely on training insurance adjusters. Approved by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, VAS could now accept educational benefits for America’s heroes.

Over the next thirteen years, VAS earned a national reputation for excellence, creating what many came to call “the special ops of adjuster training.” VAS-Trained Adjusters consistently ranked in the top 10% of field adjusters nationwide—because they produced reliable, consistent work in a demanding industry.

Our signature six-week intensive program gave aspiring adjusters everything they needed to launch successful careers as insurance claims adjusters. Powered by the proven VAS Process, our graduates quickly became valued assets to independent adjusting firms and carriers alike. It was our honor to train and support those who had already served our country with distinction.

Today, VAS is evolving.
We're transitioning from our traditional brick-and-mortar model to a dynamic online training platform built to serve experienced adjusters seeking to elevate their performance. This new platform features two flagship programs:

• The VAS Certified Adjuster Program (VCAP) – Designed to help working adjusters produce more professional, consistent, and high-quality work that helps them stand out in an industry that has far too many sub-standard adjusters.

• VAS Solutions – An Appraisal and Umpire certification program that will form the foundation of a national Appraisal firm. Carriers can rely on this network to deliver consistent, VAS-standard appraisals—no matter where the assignment is located.

Freed from the limitations of state and federal regulations, VAS can now expand its reach—supporting more adjusters, IA firms, and carriers than ever before. Our mission remains the same: to raise the bar of excellence, consistency, and professionalism across the insurance adjusting industry. That commitment is reflected in our motto: Semper Idem—Always the Same. It speaks to the reliability of the VAS Process and the unwavering standards our name represents, no matter where or when the work is done.

After 13 years of successful operations, Veteran Adjusting School closed the
VAS-Trained Adjuster program.
